Services for the Community

In year one our Big Lottery Healthy Eating, Active Lifestyle project, attracted over 700 local residents to take part in a range of activities from family ‘cook and eat’ sessions to 'belly dance' for exercise.

The centre hosts the weekly Coal Clough Lane Community Association over 50s lunch club regularly attracting over thirty people. For the very young, National Bread Week was enjoyed with a ‘picnic in the park’.
These and other community involvement activities have all been possible thanks to Big Lottery funding.

Regular computer ‘taster’ sessions run at the centre, with local people ‘dropping in’ to find out how to use the internet, learn about word processing and other IT basics.

For the more advanced Burnley College run weekly accredited IT literacy courses.

ELAC – Education Learning Activity Centre – runs a supervised after school club with games and outdoors sports at the centre on Monday and Thursday evenings during school term time.

Some of the children joined the Big Lottery HEAL project learning about healthy eating.
GreenSpace, one of East Lancashire’s most successful charities helping people with enduring mental ill health, uses the centre and the kitchen for life skills coaching including cookery lessons.

The centre also regularly plays host to public consultation and local community and tenant meetings and presentations from organisations including Burnley Borough Council and Calico Housing. It is also a polling station on election days.
